Originally from Philadelphia King has followed many paths in music over a career spanning 3 decades from; being the tour DJ for Grammy Award winning hip hop group Digable Planets to co-founding Ovum Records with Josh Wink, to writing as Sylk 130, hundreds of remixes asnd fin ally academic.
King’s current position is as a teaching professor at the University of California San Diego. One of the courses King teaches at UCSD is called Blacktronika: Afrofuturism Ii electronic music, it’s a new course devised by King that has included Questlove, Sun Ra Arkestra and Goldie dropping in as guests. King’s exploration of Afrofuturism began much earlier including ‘A Night of Afrofuture’ that took place at MOMA PS1 in New York City back in 2014.
It’s been an incredible journey from East to West Coasts and everywhere in between and we’re keen to find out more about it all on Escape Pods trip into space.
