You may have come across John over lockdown if you saw the excellent short Netflix film, ‘John was trying to contact Aliens’. If you haven’t seen it we definitely recommend checking it out.
Long story short, and it is a long story indeed spanning over three decades, John learnt how to build powerful high voltage transmitters that could broadcast radio signals into space. He then set up a DJ studio and played music over the rig with the hope that someone out there was listening.
The name for the project was S.T.R.A.T, which stood for Special Telemetry Research and Tracking and the radio shows were broadcast from Earth Station One.
John Shepherd had become the world’s first cosmic DJ.
